NHPC Limited has initiated the tendering process to select developers for setting up a 1,200 MW grid-connected solar power project at the Jalaun Solar Power Park in Uttar Pradesh. The central public sector undertaking issued the Request for Selection (RfS) document for the large-scale project on August 2, inviting competitive tariff-based bids.

The mega-capacity project is planned to be executed in four units of 300 MW each. Selected bidders will be responsible for the design, engineering, supply, construction, installation, testing, and commissioning of their allotted capacity. The bidding will be conducted on a single-stage, two-envelope basis, combining both technical and financial evaluations.

According to NHPC’s tender document, the scheduled commencement of supply date (SCSD) is 18 months from the signing of the Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs). NHPC will enter into 25-year PPAs with the successful developers, ensuring long-term revenue certainty. The solar power generated will be integrated into the national grid and is expected to contribute significantly to the region’s renewable energy mix.

The Jalaun Solar Power Park has been earmarked as a key node in Uttar Pradesh’s renewable energy roadmap. Spread across a land bank made available by the state government, the park offers ready access to evacuation infrastructure, making it suitable for large-scale utility projects. NHPC’s involvement adds to the project’s institutional backing, given its track record in hydropower and recent diversification into solar energy.

As per the bidding conditions, only companies with prior experience in utility-scale renewable power development and sound financials are eligible to participate. Developers must submit earnest money deposits and demonstrate land procurement readiness or lease arrangements, as mandated in the RfS.

Apart from contributing to India’s solar capacity targets under the National Solar Mission, the project is also expected to drive local employment during both construction and operational phases. Ancillary infrastructure improvements in the Jalaun district, such as roads, substations, and skill-based training, are anticipated as indirect benefits.

The deadline for submission of bids is set for September 8, 2025. NHPC will subsequently initiate the evaluation process, with Letter of Awards (LoAs) expected to be issued in the last quarter of 2025. Commissioning is anticipated to begin by mid-2027, subject to timely financial closure and site mobilization by the developers.

This initiative follows NHPC’s broader renewable strategy, which includes solar, wind, and green hydrogen integration across multiple states. With this tender, NHPC’s total solar pipeline crosses 3,000 MW, underlining its position as a growing contributor to India’s non-hydro clean energy capacity.
