Gujarat CM Launches Project to Build 607 Anganwadis Using LGSF Technology
The Government of Gujarat launched a project to construct 607 Anganwadi-Nand Ghars using Light Gauge Steel Frame (LGSF) technology. The digital launch took place from Gandhinagar, with Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel leading the initiative. The construction of these centers is part of a broader vision for the state's development and aligns with the national objective of creating a developed India by 2047.
The project will be funded through the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative of Gujarat State Petroleum Corporation (GSPC). It reflects the state government's ongoing commitment to enhancing the lives of children, women, and lactating mothers through improved infrastructure in Anganwadis, which are vital for early childhood care and education. The centers are intended to provide children with a space to receive nutrition, education, and care, helping to shape their development from a young age.
Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel highlighted the importance of Anganwadis, referring to them as “Nand Ghars,” a term promoted by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Patel emphasized the role these centers play in shaping the future of the country by ensuring that children grow up with the necessary resources for their physical, intellectual, and emotional development. According to Patel, these Anganwadis will not only provide education but will also help instill a sense of national pride and responsibility in the children, who will form the foundation of a strong nation by 2047.
CM assured that the state government would allocate the required funds to ensure that the new Anganwadis meet the highest standards of infrastructure, providing a quality environment for the development of children. He also encouraged Anganwadi workers to remain dedicated to their roles, as they play a crucial part in shaping the lives of the children attending these centers.
Bhanuben Babariya, the Women and Child Welfare Minister of Gujarat, spoke about the efforts of the state to expand Anganwadis. She explained that Gujarat currently has over 45 lakh beneficiaries across 53,000 operational Anganwadi centers. Babariya reiterated the importance of this initiative, noting that the new Anganwadis will offer children a better, more modern environment that supports their growth. She also stated that these new centers will contribute significantly to the state's broader goal of becoming a developed nation by 2047. The construction of the Anganwadis forms part of the effort to ensure that every child has access to essential services from an early age, including nutritious food and quality education.
A key feature of the project is the use of Light Gauge Steel Frame (LGSF) technology in the construction of the centers. GSPC, in collaboration with the Women and Child Welfare Department, selected this modern construction method after six months of extensive research and consultations. LGSF technology is known for its durability and ability to withstand seismic activity, moisture, and fire. These qualities make it an ideal choice for the construction of Anganwadi-Nand Ghars in Gujarat. The use of LGSF technology also allows for faster construction, with the centers set to be completed in just 60 days, in contrast to the longer timelines typically required for conventional building methods.
Raj Kumar, the Chief Secretary of Gujarat, also spoke at the launch event, emphasizing the importance of education and social welfare in the state’s development. He noted that the construction of Anganwadi centers, along with schools and other educational institutions, is an integral part of the state’s broader development plans. Kumar assured that the state government is committed to improving the infrastructure of these centers, making them both functional and eco-friendly.
The Managing Director of GSPC, Milind Torawane, discussed the role of CSR in supporting the state’s development initiatives. He explained that the construction of these new Anganwadis will help modernize the existing facilities, ensuring that they are equipped to provide a safe, secure, and nurturing environment for children. Torawane also pointed out that the initiative is aligned with the company’s broader CSR goals of improving the welfare of communities and supporting the state’s development priorities.
The use of LGSF technology in the construction of the Anganwadis also demonstrates the state’s commitment to adopting modern, sustainable building methods. LGSF construction offers several benefits, including faster project timelines, reduced environmental impact, and greater durability. The initiative reflects the state’s focus on leveraging innovative solutions to improve infrastructure and provide better services to the people.
As the project progresses, the government expects that more Anganwadis will be built using this technology, extending the benefits of modern, efficient infrastructure to more communities across Gujarat.
