MHADA Resolves Over 50 Grievances, Prepares for Eighth Lokshahi Din on January 13
The Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Authority (MHADA) is set to hold its Eighth Lokshahi Din on January 13, 2025, at 12 PM at its headquarters in Bandra East. Launched in January 2024, Lokshahi Din has emerged as an important platform for addressing citizen grievances related to housing, redevelopment, and tenancy. Led by Mr. Sanjeev Jaiswal, IAS, Vice President and CEO of MHADA, this monthly initiative provides a direct channel for citizens to bring their concerns to senior officials.
Since its inception, Lokshahi Din has successfully resolved over 50 grievances. These include 35 housing-related issues, such as ownership disputes and incomplete documentation; 12 redevelopment-related matters, including delays in the allocation of flats and 6 tenancy cases, particularly involving excessive rents in transit camps. Many of these grievances had been unresolved for years, with some pending for over three decades. By addressing such long-pending issues, Lokshahi Din underscores MHADA’s commitment to streamlining processes and ensuring efficient resolution of citizen concerns.
Examples of resolved cases highlight the platform’s effectiveness. In one instance, a decades-old ownership dispute concerning a flat in Andheri was resolved after MHADA conducted a thorough review of the necessary documentation. Another case involved tenants who had faced delayed flat allocations under redevelopment agreements. Following corrective actions, these tenants were granted their rightful homes, offering much-needed relief. Additionally, a long-term transit tenant in Worli had been subjected to excessive rent charges for years. After a detailed review by MHADA, the charges were significantly reduced, demonstrating the program’s ability to rectify systemic issues.
The initiative has also proven instrumental in clearing backlogs and addressing complex cases. For instance, disputes over ownership regularization spanning 35 years were successfully resolved, and delayed redevelopment allocations were expedited. Such actions not only deliver tangible outcomes for affected citizens but also showcase MHADA’s dedication to efficient governance.
Citizens interested in participating in the upcoming session on January 13 are required to submit their grievances in duplicate using the prescribed format available on the official MHADA website (mhada.gov.in).
All applications must include the necessary supporting documents and should be submitted at least 14 days before the session. It is important to note that only personal grievances will be accepted. Matters that are sub-judice, repetitive complaints, or unrelated issues will not be entertained. Applications deemed ineligible will be forwarded to the relevant departments for further action, and applicants will be informed about the steps taken.
Commenting on the initiative, Mr. Sanjeev Jaiswal stated, “Lokshahi Din ensures that grievances affecting citizens are resolved with fairness and urgency. By providing clear resolutions to complex issues, we aim to strengthen public trust and deliver results that directly improve people’s lives.”
The upcoming Lokshahi Din will be held at MHADA’s Bandra East headquarters. Citizens and media can attend and witness MHADA’s efforts to address housing and redevelopment challenges in Mumbai, reflecting its commitment to transparency and efficiency.
