Waste Management Startup WeVOIS Raises $4.2 Million to Scale Up Operations in India

India faces a growing waste management crisis, producing around 62 million tonnes of waste each year. However, only 12 million tonnes of this waste are properly treated before disposal. With waste volumes projected to more than double by 2030, the need for innovative and scalable solutions has never been more urgent. In this regard, WeVOIS, a waste management startup, has raised $4.2 million in Series A funding to scale its operations and drive transformative changes in the sector.

The funding round was led by Negen Capital and Vyom Wealth, the family office of Polycab, with additional support from Venture Catalysts, SN Capital, Warmup Ventures, Marsshot Ventures (Razorpay Founders’ Fund), and several angel investors. This investment will help WeVOIS expand its operations across India, foster new partnerships, and accelerate innovation to address the country's mounting waste management issues.

Founded with the vision of creating a sustainable and efficient waste management ecosystem, WeVOIS aims to address the key challenges facing the industry. The company leverages advanced technology to streamline waste collection, recovery, and recycling processes. In a statement, Abhishek Gupta, Co-Founder and CEO of WeVOIS, highlighted the company’s growth, noting that it employs over 1,500 sanitation workers and collaborates with more than 20 municipal bodies across India. The company’s ambitious goal is to establish 100 zero-waste cities within the next five years, a testament to its commitment to transforming India’s waste management landscape.

WeVOIS’s strategy includes diverting waste away from landfills and reducing dependence on primary resources, which not only addresses waste management concerns but also helps reduce greenhouse gas emissions. The company is also focused on sustainable practices by setting up textile waste recycling centers and bio-CNG plants to convert wet waste into clean energy. These initiatives underscore WeVOIS’s dedication to promoting sustainability and reducing the environmental impact of waste.

Neil Bahal, Founder of Negen Capital, emphasized the rapid evolution of the waste management sector, driven by improved regulations and increasing awareness of environmental issues. He believes WeVOIS’s advanced technology positions the company to tackle these challenges effectively, benefiting both investors and local communities alike. By implementing cutting-edge waste management practices, WeVOIS aims to be at the forefront of India’s efforts to manage waste sustainably.

The company’s approach is especially critical given the projected increase in waste generation. As India’s urban population grows and consumption levels rise, the demand for effective waste management solutions will continue to escalate. WeVOIS’s focus on scaling its operations and implementing innovative solutions is vital to addressing these challenges and meeting the country's future waste management needs.
