Eight Companies Submit Bids for ₹1,286 Crore Gurugram Metro Phase 1 Contract
The tender for the first phase of the Gurugram Metro project has attracted bids from eight firms, according to officials from the Gurugram Metropolitan Rapid Transit Corporation (GMRL). The project, valued at ₹1,286 crore, covers the metro stretch from Millennium City Centre to the Dwarka Expressway.
The bids were opened on Thursday by GMRL, which serves as the special purpose vehicle set up by the Haryana government to implement mass rapid transit projects within the state. The eight companies that submitted proposals will now have their bids undergo technical evaluation by the corporation.
Chander Shekhar Khare, CEO and Managing Director of HMRTC, commented on the response, stating that it was encouraging to see participation from several reputed construction firms. He added that the next steps will include a detailed technical and financial assessment of the bids, which will guide the decision on contract awards.
The first phase of the Gurugram Metro project involves the construction of a 15.22 km elevated metro viaduct, along with 15 metro stations. The phase also includes a 1.85 km spur line leading to the Dwarka Expressway and a ramp for access to a future metro depot located in Sector 33.
The metro stations planned for phase one include Millennium City Centre, which will have an interchange connection with the existing Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) station, followed by Sector 45, Cyber Park (Sector 46), Sector 47, Subhash Chowk, Sector 48, Sector 33, Hero Honda Chowk, Udyog Vihar Phase 6, Sector 10, Sector 37, Basai, Sector 9, and Sector 101.
Officials also shared that the metro project is planned to proceed in three phases. The second phase will include the development of 13 stations spanning from Sector 9 to DLF Cyber City, with a tender for this phase currently in preparation and expected to be issued soon.
The third phase focuses on constructing the metro depot in Sector 33. The Haryana Shahari Vikas Pradhikaran (HSVP) has already allotted 30 acres of land for this purpose, with approximately 5 acres still pending transfer to GMRL.
To facilitate the metro construction, GMRL plans to coordinate with local agencies in Gurugram to manage the relocation of utilities and road widening along the metro route, especially for the initial phase. These preparatory works are essential to ensure smooth progress during the construction period.
The Gurugram Metro project is expected to improve public transport connectivity in the city and its surrounding areas. It will provide a faster and more efficient mode of travel, linking key commercial, residential, and industrial zones.
