Amitabh Bachchan Buys 25,000 Sq Ft Plot for ₹40 Crore in Ayodhya, Expanding Real Estate Holdings Near Ram Mandir
Bollywood legend Amitabh Bachchan has added to his real estate holdings in Ayodhya by purchasing a 25,000 sq ft plot of land valued at nearly ₹40 crore. This acquisition continues his growing investment footprint in the region, which has been gaining attention following the construction of the Ram Mandir and increased infrastructure development.
The newly acquired land is situated adjacent to The Sarayu, a luxury plotted development by Mumbai-based real estate firm The House of Abhinandan Lodha (HoABL). This deal marks a significant addition to Bachchan's existing properties in Ayodhya, as well as elsewhere in India.
This is not the first time Bachchan has invested in the city. In 2024, he purchased a 10,000 sq ft plot within The Sarayu for ₹14.5 crore. Additionally, reports indicate that in early 2025, he acquired a larger 54,454 sq ft plot about 10 kilometers from the Ram Mandir, under the Harivansh Rai Bachchan Trust. This land is reportedly intended for a memorial honoring his father, the noted Hindi poet Harivansh Rai Bachchan.
Before the inauguration of the Ram Temple in 2024, Bachchan also bought a smaller 5,372 sq ft plot in Haveli Avadh for ₹4.54 crore, expanding his real estate presence in the area.
Beyond Ayodhya, Amitabh Bachchan has diversified his real estate portfolio with land purchases in other locations. Notably, he acquired a 10,000 sq ft land parcel in Alibaug for ₹10 crore, again from HoABL. This acquisition aligns with his growing interest in luxury real estate projects across India.
The House of Abhinandan Lodha (HoABL) is a notable player in the land development sector. Established in 2020, the firm has delivered over 15 million sq ft of developed land and currently manages more than 30 million sq ft under active development. HoABL operates in several locations including Ayodhya, Goa, Alibaug, Anjarle, Dapoli, Neral, Khopoli, and Nagpur. The company also plans expansion into additional cities such as Shimla, Amritsar, Varanasi, Vrindavan, and others.
In addition to land development, HoABL has ventured into vertical real estate in Mumbai with projects in Marine Lines, Chowpatty, and Naigaon, encompassing over 3.1 million sq ft of development potential.
Ayodhya's real estate market has experienced rapid growth in recent years, driven by both infrastructural improvements and increased interest in the city’s spiritual significance. According to a report by Liases Foras titled "Ayodhya – A Rising Global Spiritual Capital," the city has seen a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 19% in land prices, with expectations this could rise to 25% by 2035.
Key factors contributing to this growth include the expansion of Ayodhya’s international airport, enhanced road and rail connectivity, and large-scale projects such as the Ram Mandir. Land values in strategic areas, including the Sarayu riverfront and the Ram Mandir corridor, have increased over fourfold from 2020 to 2025.
Additionally, Ayodhya is witnessing a boom in hospitality infrastructure. More than 50 new hotel projects are underway, with major luxury hotel chains such as The Leela, Taj, and The Oberoi establishing their presence in the city. This development is expected to further drive demand for real estate and support long-term investment opportunities.
Amitabh Bachchan’s consistent investments in Ayodhya underscore the growing interest among high-profile individuals in the city’s potential. His acquisitions, particularly in proximity to major projects like The Sarayu, align with broader market trends showing increased demand for premium land and residential developments in the region.
The purchase of a large plot for nearly ₹40 crore reflects confidence in the city’s future growth, both as a religious destination and as an emerging urban center. The reported plan to establish a memorial to Harivansh Rai Bachchan also adds cultural and historical significance to his real estate activities in the area.
