UP RERA Dismisses 12 Employees Over Questionable Conduct in Past Year

In an effort to maintain procedural discipline and transparency, the Uttar Pradesh Real Estate Regulatory Authority (UP RERA) has dismissed 12 of its employees over the past year due to questionable conduct. The removed personnel include a mix of technical, clerical, and support staff, reflecting the authority’s focus on internal compliance.

According to UP RERA officials, the sacked individuals include three junior engineers, two law clerks-cum-research assistants (LCRAs), one assistant accountant, four computer operators, a help desk employee, and one peon. The action was taken after internal monitoring processes identified conduct that did not align with expected standards.

UP RERA Chairman Sanjay Bhoosreddy stated that integrity is a critical aspect of the authority’s functioning, particularly given the sensitive nature of its responsibilities. As a matter of policy, an affidavit of integrity is taken from each officer and employee at the time of joining. While the total workforce remains limited, the chairman noted that steps are regularly taken to enhance employee skills through training programs.

The authority has also implemented several procedural safeguards. These include the installation of CCTV cameras throughout the RERA offices and regular monitoring of employee and visitor movement by senior officials. These measures are part of a broader approach to strengthen internal governance and ensure that the work of the authority is carried out without interference or malpractice.

As part of this policy of zero tolerance, UP RERA has also referred a case to the Bar Council of Uttar Pradesh for further action under the Advocates Act, 1961. The referral indicates that one of the matters involved a legal professional associated with the authority.

UP RERA has been operating since 2017, with its headquarters located in Lucknow and a regional office in Greater Noida that opened in 2018. The authority was established under the Real Estate (Regulation and Development) Act, 2016 to bring accountability to real estate developers and safeguard consumer interests in property transactions.

The recent dismissals and the enforcement of integrity measures indicate that UP RERA is taking consistent steps to address internal issues and maintain the credibility of its regulatory mandate.
