N Saravana Kumar Appointed as Vice Chairman of Delhi Development Authority
In a significant administrative development, senior Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer N Saravana Kumar has assumed charge as the Vice Chairman of the Delhi Development Authority (DDA) as of May 1. The appointment was formally announced by the DDA in an official statement.
A 2000-batch IAS officer from the Bihar cadre, Kumar brings with him more than 24 years of rich and varied administrative experience across multiple sectors including education, rural development, communications, agriculture, and food and consumer protection. His appointment comes at a crucial juncture when the DDA is engaged in several high-impact urban planning and development initiatives in the national capital.
Prior to joining the DDA, Kumar served as the Principal Secretary in Bihar’s Department of Food and Consumer Protection. Over his distinguished career, he has also held the position of District Magistrate in various districts of Bihar—including the state capital, Patna—for nearly a decade. His proactive work in disaster management during floods earned him accolades and recognition from the Bihar government, showcasing his ability to lead under challenging circumstances.
His appointment is expected to inject fresh momentum into several of DDA’s flagship projects. These include the Rejuvenation of the Yamuna Floodplains, In-situ Slum Rehabilitation, and the large-scale development of the Narela Sub-city—one of the biggest urban expansion projects currently underway in Delhi. Kumar will also oversee the establishment of Centres of Excellence in sports and the ongoing implementation of the PM-UDAY Scheme, aimed at providing property rights to residents of unauthorized colonies.
Kumar’s leadership comes at a strategic point, as the Delhi Master Plan 2041 is being finalized. This long-term planning document will guide the capital’s growth and infrastructure development over the next two decades. With his wide-ranging expertise and field-level governance experience, Kumar is expected to play a pivotal role in shaping Delhi’s urban future under DDA’s mandate.
