The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) has rolled out LogBook360 Smart Queue Management System as digital queue system at seven zonal offices of AMC to manage services of citizens related to the transfer/change of the name against property tax bills. This initiative is aimed at decreasing waiting times, regulating the movement of citizens/visitors among offices and providing citizens access to the current status of their service requests.
The introduction of this system falls under a broader initiative of AMC to bring down the digitisation level of the civic services to a point where the citizens feel happy, even if they have to go physically to the municipal offices. Now, customers can generate digital tokens, check in via QR codes and use the display board to get the status of their positions in the queue.
Digital Queue Management at AMC Zonal Offices
The LogBook360 system has initially been implemented across AMC’s seven zonal offices. The civic body plans to extend the system to 63 additional civic centres, increasing the number of locations where citizens can access digitally managed queues.
Property tax name transfer is among the services covered by the system. Name transfer requests are an important municipal process for property owners following property transactions or changes in ownership records. Managing these requests through a structured queue can help reduce congestion at civic offices.
Citizens who have not made a prior booking can also obtain tokens when they arrive at an office. Self-service kiosks have been provided for instant token generation, allowing visitors to enter the queue without having to depend entirely on manual arrangements.
QR-Based Check-In and Digital Tokens
One of the features of the LogBook360 platform is QR code-based check-in. Citizens can use the digital facility to enter the queue and receive a token for the required service.
Once a token has been generated, visitors can wait in designated seating areas rather than standing in physical queues around service counters. Digital display screens provide updates on token numbers, allowing citizens to monitor their position.
When a token number is called electronically at the designated counter, the citizen can proceed to the relevant service desk.
This approach changes the way visitors move through municipal offices. Instead of several people gathering around counters while waiting for their turn, the queue is managed digitally and visitors are called according to their token numbers.
Reducing Crowding at Public Institutions
During peak hours, local government offices may be swamped with citizens all coming at the same time for property registrations, collecting tax bills or other paperwork. Traditional lineups not only cause disorder, but also make it quite hard for visitors to estimate the length of their wait time.
As quoted in AMC's statement, through the newly introduced system they have been able to better regulate queue flow, reduce the density of the crowd and as a result maintain order in the workplace.
By tracking the status of tokens via computer screens, visitors also get to witness the whole process. This means they can sit and wait without having to keep getting up and going near the service desk just so they know their turn is about to come.
Civil Servants who take care of the local people can also use such a computer-assisted queuing mechanism to get a better way of handling public visitors and organizing the traffic of the people from a waiting zone to a counter of services without needing much queue-handling from a human side.
Expansion to Other Civic Services
AMC is also looking at extending the digital queue management system beyond property tax-related services.
According to officials, the technology is planned for use in health department services, including appointments for Yellow Fever vaccinations. It is also proposed for services associated with birth certificates.
The proposed expansion could allow more municipal services to use common digital queue-management practices. Citizens visiting different civic centres could potentially benefit from token-based appointments, digital check-ins and live queue information.
Such applications can be particularly useful for services where citizens need to visit municipal offices for document verification, appointments or other processes that cannot be completed entirely online.
Focus on Transparency and Service Delivery
The implementation of LogBook360 is also intended to improve transparency in citizen service delivery. Digital token generation provides a defined sequence for visitors, while electronic displays make the status of the queue visible to people waiting at the facility.
AMC officials said the system has supported transparency, punctuality and operational efficiency in citizen services. The platform is also expected to streamline staff operations by providing a structured mechanism for handling visitors.
The initiative reflects a wider shift towards technology-enabled municipal administration, where digital tools are being used not only for online applications and payments but also for managing physical interactions at government offices.
For property owners, the immediate application of the system to property tax bill name transfers could make visits to AMC zonal offices more organised. As the system is expanded to additional civic centres and potentially to other departments, its effectiveness will depend on consistent implementation, adequate digital infrastructure and citizens' awareness of the new process.
