Resident Welfare Association (RWA) of Noida's Sector 145 Protest Against Delayed Plot Transfers

The Resident Welfare Association (RWA) of Noida's Sector 145 staged a protest against the Noida Authority. The residents voiced their frustration over the prolonged delay in the transfer of residential plots, a situation that has persisted for eight years despite repeated assurances from the authorities.

Background of the Issue

The issue dates back to eight years ago when around 2,250 residential plots in Sector 145 were registered under the 5% compensation scheme. This scheme was intended to compensate farmers for acquired agricultural land by providing their families with residential plots. However, despite these registrations, the physical possession of the plots has not been granted to the buyers, leaving many in a state of limbo.

Affected residents, who have invested in these plots, have taken substantial loans and are currently living in rented accommodations. The ongoing delay has not only caused financial strain due to loan repayments but has also resulted in additional penalties imposed by the Noida Authority. The RWA President, Latsahab Lohia, highlighted these concerns during the protest, emphasizing the need for expedited plot registrations.

Protest and Demands

During the three-hour protest, residents gathered to express their dissatisfaction with the slow pace of development work and the lack of clarity on the timeline for plot transfers. Lohia stated, "We urge the authority to expedite the registrations… we have time and again approached officials but no headway has been made in the matter." The frustration among the plot owners is palpable, as many have been waiting for years with no resolution in sight.

The RWA also addressed a letter to Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, seeking immediate intervention to resolve the issue. The letter outlined the persistent problems faced by the residents and requested urgent action to ensure the timely transfer of plots and the development of the sector.

Historical Context and Previous Assurances

This protest is not the first time the residents have voiced their grievances. In 2021, a similar demonstration was held, during which officials assured the plot owners that the physical possession of the plots and the development of the sector would be prioritized. However, according to RWA Vice President Subhash Bhati, "No concrete work has been done on the ground. Some officials have also shared that there are no legal hurdles in the development of the sector. It is just procedural delay on the part of the authority and the district administration."

The ongoing procedural delays have exacerbated the residents' frustration. Despite the lack of legal obstacles, the development work remains stalled, causing significant distress among the plot owners. The residents' protest aimed to bring attention to these delays and demand accountability from the authorities responsible for the sector's development.

Calls for Future Actions

The RWA has made it clear that they will continue to fight for their rights until a resolution is achieved. Lohia indicated that if necessary, they would organize further demonstrations, possibly involving farmers and other plot owners, to escalate their demands. The commitment to persist in their efforts reflects the residents' determination to secure the plots they rightfully own.

Response from Noida Authority

Despite the protest and the letter to the Chief Minister, Noida Authority's CEO, Lokesh M, did not provide any comments on the matter. The lack of response from the authority further fuels the residents' frustration and raises questions about the commitment to addressing their concerns.

The ongoing delay in the transfer of residential plots in Noida's Sector 145 has left many residents in a difficult situation, grappling with financial burdens and unfulfilled promises. The recent protest by the RWA highlights the urgent need for the Noida Authority and the Uttar Pradesh government to address these issues promptly.
