Foxconn Eyes 300 Acres in Greater Noida for First Electronics Facility in North India
In a potential boost to Uttar Pradesh’s industrial landscape, iPhone maker Foxconn is in early-stage discussions with the state government to set up a large-scale electronics manufacturing facility in Greater Noida. According to government sources cited by PTI, the Taiwanese electronics giant is considering a 300-acre land parcel under the Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority (YEIDA) for this purpose. If finalized, this would mark Foxconn’s first major manufacturing presence in North India.
The initiative is being spearheaded by Invest UP, the state government’s investment promotion agency, which recently pitched the land opportunity to Foxconn. This proposal was made during the final land allocation process for the HCL-Foxconn joint venture, Vama Sundari, which is setting up a semiconductor packaging and testing unit in Sector 28 of YEIDA.
While discussions are still at a preliminary stage, the development signals a strategic move by both the Uttar Pradesh government and Foxconn to strengthen India's electronics manufacturing ecosystem. The government aims to position the state as a hub for high-tech industries, and attracting a global player like Foxconn aligns with this vision.
A senior official at the Centre also confirmed the ongoing talks, though emphasized that no decisions have yet been made regarding the types of products Foxconn intends to manufacture at the proposed facility. "There is no discussion yet on specific products... the talks are at a very initial stage," the source said, highlighting the exploratory nature of the conversations.
This proposed expansion follows Foxconn's growing investment interests in India amid global efforts to diversify supply chains beyond China. The company is already India’s largest iPhone manufacturer, with facilities in Tamil Nadu and Karnataka. A new plant in Uttar Pradesh would expand Foxconn’s geographic footprint and could potentially bring substantial job opportunities and ancillary development to the region.
Meanwhile, the HCL-Foxconn joint venture Vama Sundari Technologies has already been allocated 48 acres of land in Greater Noida. The JV plans to invest ₹3,706 crore in setting up an outsourced semiconductor assembly and test (OSAT) facility, which is expected to generate approximately 4,000 jobs.
While official statements from Foxconn or the Uttar Pradesh government remain pending, this development signals a strong intent to scale up electronics and semiconductor-related manufacturing in the state. If the 300-acre proposal proceeds, it would not only elevate UP’s status in India's electronics corridor but also contribute significantly to the country’s ambitions of becoming a global manufacturing hub.
