17,000 of YEIDA’s 34,000 Allottees Still Await Plot Possession Due to Legal Disputes
The Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority (YEIDA) has compiled a comprehensive database revealing that approximately 17,000 of the 34,000 plot allottees have yet to take possession due to ongoing court disputes over land pending in the Allahabad High Court.
YEIDA's initiative to compile a comprehensive database of all properties aims to address and resolve the issues faced by plot allottees. This database includes detailed information about each plot, covering residential, industrial, and housing categories among others. Chief Executive Officer Arun Vir Singh mentioned that the database would assist the authority in understanding and resolving these issues more effectively.
YEIDA has conducted a thorough survey of the 34,000 plots, which span across 13 sectors developed over the past decade. This survey included industrial, institutional, residential, and mixed land use areas. However, significant challenges remain, particularly concerning legal disputes with farmers.
Current Status of Plot Allotments
- Residential Sectors (16, 17, 18, 20, and 22D): These sectors contain about 30,034 plots. Despite development starting in 2008, most allottees have yet to construct their homes due to a lack of basic facilities.
- Institutional Sectors (17A and 22E): Out of 170 plots, 130 have been allotted and 85 registered.
- Industrial Sectors (28, 29, 32, and 33): YEIDA has allotted 2,994 plots out of 3,341, with 1,995 of these registered.
- Mixed Land Use Sectors (24 and 24A): Of the 41 plots, 8 have been allotted and registered.
Development Challenges
YEIDA faces several obstacles in developing the necessary infrastructure. While basic amenities such as roads, water, electricity, sewers, and parks have been completed on 15,541 plots, work is progressing on 8,077 plots. However, 9,523 plots face development challenges due to disputes.
Legal and Administrative Hurdles
There are 1,181 plots where allotment letters have not been issued due to legal issues. Additionally, 359 plots are under court stays because of various disputes, including farmers’ protests. Furthermore, YEIDA is yet to prepare the lease plans for around 17,000 plots.
YEIDA is making efforts to resolve these issues through periodic reviews and continuous updates to the database. Despite these efforts, the authority faces significant pressure from plot allottees who demand the timely development of basic facilities, which they have awaited for many years.
YEIDA's initiative to compile a comprehensive database is a step in the right direction, the path to resolving these disputes and completing the necessary infrastructure development remains challenging. The authority's ability to overcome these obstacles will be crucial in ensuring that the 17,000 affected allottees can finally take possession of their plots.
