The 31st Board meeting of Rourkela Smart City Ltd (RSCL) took place recently, gathering the key stakeholders of Rourkela Smart City Ltd (RSCL) board for a comprehensive review of the ongoing projects and to strategize new projects to turn Rourkela into a future-ready smart city. The meeting was led by Anu Garg, Development Commissioner-cum-Additional Chief Secretary. Other attendes included, Usha Padhee, Principal Secretary of the Housing and Urban Development Department, Subhankar Mohapatra, Sundargarh Collector, and Dheenah Dastageer, CEO of RSCL.

The majority of the meeting was alloted for discussion about the Integrated Command and Control Centre project which is a central unit of the city's management system. The board marked the importance of the project getting the work done at a fast pace and kept an eye on the schedule to ensure that the work was done within the time frame. Department officials, therefore, have been given the task to ensure smooth cooperation between the different departments and to deal with any obstacles so as not to cause delays.

The board also called for a detailed review of the 'rOURkela One' project progress which represents the major move towards the public infrastructure enhancement and the provision of community facilities. The members expressed their delight in the progress of the construction of the city command centre and the Tribal Museum buildings as well as pointing out the advancement and quality of the work done. A great deal of the meeting was devoted to discussing the soft aspects of the tribal museum including the development of the content, constructing the traditional tribal huts, exhibition of the artefacts, and production of shrine crafts reflecting the rich cultural heritage of the region.

Apart from these two projects, the board got the information about the other projects that are still in progress like the big recreation park and the Vedvyas heritage development project. The conversations brought the necessity of not only making the places functional but also culturally enriching, thus, giving the residents and visitors the opportunity for learning, leisure, and aesthetic enjoyment.

The board saw integrated planning, on time execution, and community-development as very important aspects leading to the realization of the Rourkela smart city dream. The officials were instructed to keep high-quality standards during project implementation, ensure that the budget is followed strictly, and at the same time that the local communities are given the opportunity to participate in different projects, thereby facilitating urban development that is inclusive.

The meeting ended with enthusiastic commitment to accelerate the ongoing projects and to prepare the future developments for the enhancement of the urban living standards and the promotion of sustainable growth. Rourkela through these measures intends not only to be a regional leader in smart city projects but also to elegantly combine technology, heritage, and life quality ‍‌‍‍‌‍‌‍‍‌improvements.
