Ranchi Municipal Corporation Extends PMAY 2.0 Scheme Till 2029 to Support Urban Housing

The Ranchi Municipal Corporation (RMC) has extended the implementation of the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Urban) 2.0 under its jurisdiction, with the scheme now set to continue until 2029. The initiative, which officially began on September 1, 2024, aims to provide housing assistance to urban poor families through the Beneficiary-Led Construction (BLC) component.

Under the scheme, eligible families who do not own a pucca house and reside within the RMC limits as of September 1 of the preceding year can apply for financial assistance. A key eligibility requirement is an annual household income below ₹3 lakh. Applicants must also submit an affidavit affirming that they do not own a pucca house anywhere in India.

Applications for assistance can be submitted both online and offline. The required documentation includes Aadhaar card, income certificate, land ownership proof, and passport-size photographs. According to Chandradeep Kumar, Assistant Administrator of RMC, the civic body is aiming for a streamlined application process, supported by both digital and in-person support channels.

The financial aid component of PMAY 2.0 under RMC includes direct assistance of up to ₹2.5 lakh for those who have clear legal ownership of land. This amount is provided to support the construction of new houses, helping families improve their living conditions and achieve housing security.

RMC has also made it mandatory for applicants to link their Aadhaar numbers with mobile numbers to enable efficient communication and tracking of applications. This step is expected to reduce delays and improve transparency.

Aftab Alam, the City Manager of RMC, highlighted the progress made under the PMAY scheme since its launch in 2015. “Over 10,000 beneficiaries have already been supported under the earlier phases. The continuation of this program until 2029 will allow many more families to fulfil their dream of owning a home,” he said.

The extension of PMAY 2.0 by RMC is in line with the national objective of "Housing for All," targeting inclusive urban development and addressing housing shortages among economically weaker sections. With Ranchi being a rapidly growing urban centre, the move is expected to play a crucial role in reducing the housing gap and promoting dignified living conditions.

The civic body is expected to ramp up outreach activities to inform and assist eligible residents in availing the benefits of the scheme. Camps, community outreach programs, and mobile support units are likely to be deployed in the coming months.
