JK Lakshmi Cement has expanded its operations with the commissioning of a new grinding unit in Surat, increasing the company’s total installed capacity to 18 million tonnes per annum (Mta). The 1.35Mta unit is part of the company’s broader strategy to achieve a 30Mta capacity target by 2030, combining brownfield expansions and greenfield projects across India.
The new facility follows recent efficiency improvements at JK Lakshmi’s Sirohi plant in Rajasthan. These upgrades are aligned with the company’s overall operational strategy, which focuses on optimizing production processes and meeting the growing demand in key regional markets. The Surat unit is expected to strengthen the company’s supply chain in western India and enhance responsiveness to market requirements.
In addition to capacity expansion, JK Lakshmi Cement is pursuing sustainability initiatives. The company recently acquired a 26 per cent stake in Ampin C&I Power, investing INR 40 million (approximately US$480,000) to support a 9.9MWp solar power project. This investment underscores the firm’s commitment to cleaner energy sourcing and reducing the environmental footprint of its operations. The integration of renewable energy is expected to support operational efficiency while aligning with national and international sustainability goals.
