Asian Paints, India’s one of the largest paint manufacturer, has announced plans to establish a new greenfield manufacturing facility in Indore, Madhya Pradesh, with an investment of Rs 1,500–2,000 crore. The facility will be focused on producing water-based paints and will add significantly to the company’s overall capacity.
The planned plant is expected to have an annual production capacity of four lakh kilolitres (kl). Once commissioned, this will enhance Asian Paints’ total installed capacity to nearly 26 lakh kl across its network of factories in India. The company has already acquired land for the project, and regulatory approvals are underway.
Asian Paints currently operates manufacturing units in Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Gujarat, Maharashtra, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, and Tamil Nadu. The addition of the Indore facility will further strengthen its production base in central India, enabling improved supply chain efficiency and regional market coverage.
The investment comes at a time when demand for paints and coatings in India is being supported by multiple growth drivers. Government-led infrastructure initiatives, increasing housing and real estate activity, and the rebound of the automotive industry are contributing to higher consumption levels. Water-based paints, in particular, are gaining wider acceptance due to regulatory trends, environmental considerations, and consumer preference for low-VOC products.
Asian Paints’ retail distribution network currently covers more than 1.65 lakh dealers, with 4,000–5,000 new dealers being added every year. The company anticipates that the new Indore unit will help meet this expanding demand base while maintaining service levels across diverse geographies.
The company’s management has also highlighted the competitive dynamics in the industry. Alongside ongoing consolidation, foreign paint manufacturers are expected to step up their presence in the Indian market. Asian Paints aims to maintain its leadership position through capacity expansion, product innovation, and deeper market penetration.
The Indore investment reflects the broader trend of capacity creation in the paints and coatings sector to meet India’s rising consumption. For Madhya Pradesh, the project is expected to contribute to local industrial growth, job creation, and improved supply of paint products in the region.
By expanding production through this facility, Asian Paints is aligning its long-term growth strategy with emerging opportunities in construction, housing, and industrial demand segments.
