C.M. Yogi Adityanath Calls for Building Bye-law Reforms to Boost Hotel Industry in Uttar Pradesh

To boost Uttar Pradesh's tourism sector, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has initiated a comprehensive review of the state's building byelaws. This initiative, announced during a crucial meeting with senior housing officials, aims to enhance the hospitality industry by refining regulations and elevating infrastructure standards across the state.

Known for its rich cultural heritage and historical significance, Uttar Pradesh has emerged as one of India's top tourist destination, drawing a substantial number of domestic visitors each year. Chief Minister Adityanath attributed this distinction to concerted efforts in harnessing the state's tourism potential. He highlighted the need for proactive measures to support the industry's growth amid favorable conditions.

Proposed Reforms to Building Byelaws

Key among the proposed reforms is the adaptation of building byelaws to facilitate the construction of hotels ranging from six to 20 rooms within residential zones. This entails revising minimum land requirements and enhancing access road widths to seamlessly integrate new hospitality establishments into urban environments.

The revisions to minimum land requirements are aimed at making it easier for smaller hotels to be established without needing expansive plots, thereby promoting more efficient use of urban space. Enhancing access road widths is crucial for ensuring that these new hotels are easily accessible for both guests and service vehicles, improving overall convenience and traffic flow in residential areas.

Additionally, stringent guidelines on parking facilities will be introduced to ensure that sufficient parking is available for guests and staff, reducing the impact on local residential parking. Security protocols will be enforced to protect guests and hotel property, including measures such as CCTV surveillance, controlled entry points, and on-site security personnel. Fire safety measures will also be a critical focus, with requirements for modern fire detection and suppression systems, clear evacuation routes, and regular safety drills to ensure guest safety and compliance with safety regulations.

Sustainable Development

Addressing sustainable development concerns, Chief Minister Adityanath advocated for the establishment of the 'Shahjahanpur Development Authority' to oversee the district's long-term growth strategy. Aligned with the Master Plan-2031, this initiative aims to guide development while safeguarding local interests and maintaining environmental balance. The authority is expected to optimize land use in residential areas without compromising ecological integrity, ensuring inclusive and sustainable urban expansion.

Utilization of Underutilized Government Buildings

In parallel efforts, the Chief Minister directed officials to expedite the utilization of underutilized government buildings across various districts. By identifying and completing pending construction projects, these facilities can be repurposed to meet current needs, thereby optimizing existing infrastructure and minimizing resource wastage.

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath's proactive stance underscores Uttar Pradesh's commitment to fostering a conducive business environment while preserving cultural heritage and environmental sustainability. The proposed reforms in building byelaws are poised to stimulate economic growth, attract investments, and solidify the state's position as a premier tourist destination in India.

As Uttar Pradesh embarks on this ambitious journey towards comprehensive urban development, these initiatives promise to invigorate the hospitality sector and set a benchmark for balanced regional growth. By prioritizing regulatory reforms and strategic infrastructure enhancements, the state aims to unlock its full economic potential while enhancing the quality of life for its residents.
