STHAPATI Architects has announced that the Maryada Purushottam Shri Ram International Airport, Ayodhya, designed by their dedicated team, stands as the only airport in India to receive top accolades at this year’s GRIHA Summit. The airport was honoured with a prestigious 4-Star GRIHA Rating, alongside two special awards: 'Exemplary Performance in Renewable Energy Utilisation' and 'Best Energy Management.'

A Gateway Shaped by Heritage, Sustainability & Scale

Standing on a campus of 336.59 acres with an 8,000 sqm built-up area, the ₹250 of arrival: it’s an immersive gateway, welcoming 750+ travelers per peak hour and supporting four aircraft movements hourly. The project doesn’t just enable connectivity for devotees and tourists; it’s anticipated to generate 500 new jobs every year, laying the groundwork for enduring, community-driven prosperity.

This award-winning airport also pioneers sustainability for Tier 2 cities. Extensive use of eco-conscious Glass Fiber Reinforced Concrete ornamentation has replaced traditional stonework, delivering a substantial reduction in carbon emissions, which is a quantifiable step toward carbon neutrality. As a result, Ayodhya Airport is now a touchstone for sustainable infrastructure, echoing India’s commitment to mindful progress and environmental stewardship.

Jodhpur Airport: Looking to the Future

STHAPATI is channeling its design-led innovation into the upcoming Jodhpur Airport, which embodies the essence. Rather than referencing history directly, the new Jodhpur terminal translates the essence of landscape, climate, and local culture into powerful, elemental forms. In this approach, STHAPATI positions airports as living canvases, where art, movement, and the spirit of place invite travelers—and mainstream media—to reimagine what public architecture can evoke.

The terminal has been designed by STHAPATI, a multidisciplinary architectural practice headquartered in New Delhi and Lucknow. Their globally recognised portfolio spans a spectrum of building typologies, from individual dwellings to large-scale urban developments. The practice is a pioneer in airport terminals and public transportation infrastructure. Shaping mobility hubs that blend efficiency with architectural innovation. The firm is also known for its expertise in master planning, commercial spaces, institutional projects, and heritage conservation, delivering design solutions that are both visionary and contextually rooted.
