YEIDA Transfers 230 Acres of Land for Phase One of Greater Noida Film City
The Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority (YEIDA) has transferred over 230 acres of land to Bayview Bhutani Film City Private Limited, led by filmmaker Boney Kapoor, for the first phase of the Film City project in Greater Noida. This marks a significant step in the development of the project, which aims to establish one of the largest film production hubs in the world.
The site is located near the upcoming Noida International Airport along the Yamuna Expressway. With possession now transferred, the Uttar Pradesh government is expected to announce a date for the foundation-laying ceremony. Work on the site will begin immediately after the event. YEIDA officials have indicated that Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath is likely to attend the ceremony, which the developers hope to organize before the end of April.
YEIDA chief executive officer Arun Vir Singh handed over the possession letter to Boney Kapoor at the authority’s office. Later, YEIDA officials, along with representatives from Bayview Bhutani Film City and local farmers whose land was acquired for the project, visited the site in Sector 21. Singh acknowledged the role of farmers in making the project possible and emphasized that it would generate employment and contribute to economic growth in the region.
The Film City project spans 1,000 acres, with the first phase covering 230 acres. YEIDA had approved the layout plans for the development on January 30, 2025, after Bayview Bhutani submitted the necessary documents in December 2024. The project will be developed in multiple phases, with plans for studios, hotels, and a film institute.
The developers are required to follow specific guidelines, including obtaining approvals for parking, landscaping, and horticulture. Environmental considerations have also been outlined, with the project needing to meet green building certification standards. These measures aim to reduce the environmental impact of construction and maintain ecological balance.
According to Boney Kapoor, the Film City will provide filmmakers with essential facilities under one roof, reducing production costs and logistical challenges. Initially, professionals from Mumbai and other film industries will be brought in for shoots. However, once the film institute is operational, local technicians and professionals from Uttar Pradesh will be trained to support the industry. This is expected to create a skilled workforce for the sector.
The Uttar Pradesh government sees the project as an important part of its industrial strategy. Industries Minister Nand Gopal Gupta Nandi stated that the Film City could generate around 500,000 jobs, both directly and indirectly. The success of this initiative may also lead to similar projects in other industries.
The Film City will include large indoor shooting spaces to accommodate various production requirements. To address weather-related challenges, air-conditioned studios will be developed. The new studio floors will range from 40,000 to 60,000 square feet, allowing for large-scale sets and diverse filming environments.
With infrastructure development in place and a clear roadmap for execution, the Film City project is expected to boost the film industry in the region while contributing to the overall economic development of Uttar Pradesh. The coming months will be crucial in setting the foundation for its construction and future growth.
