Over 35 Lakh Homes Constructed in Uttar Pradesh under PMAY-Gramin Scheme

In a recent development under the Mukhyamantri Awas Yojana-Gramin, the government has successfully constructed 2.52 lakh houses between 2018-19 and 2023-24, nearing its target of 2.57 lakh homes. An additional 3,929 houses are currently under construction, showcasing continued efforts to meet housing demands in rural areas. This initiative has primarily focused on uplifting marginalized communities across Uttar Pradesh, providing housing security and improving living conditions.

The broader rural housing efforts under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-Gramin (PMAY-G) have also seen progress. Since 2016-17, a total of 35.88 lakh houses have been built, with another 72,000 under construction. This is against a target of 36.60 lakh houses set for completion by 2024-25. Although the program has achieved substantial success, around 27,000 houses remain incomplete as of 2023-24. However, model houses have been completed in 410 development blocks, with construction actively underway in 144 additional blocks.

The housing initiatives under the Mukhyamantri Awas Yojana-Gramin have benefited marginalized and tribal communities. Among these, 47,795 houses were constructed for Musahar families, 4,838 for Van Tangiya, 3,233 for Tharu, 29,923 for Kol, 6,979 for Sahariya, 5,367 for Chero, 1,584 for Baiga, 2,220 for Nat, 63 for Pachaia Lohar, 155 for Gadhiya Lohar, and 175 for Boksa tribal families. These efforts are aimed at ensuring social equity and inclusiveness by addressing housing shortages among vulnerable groups.

Additionally, the scheme has extended its reach to other socially disadvantaged categories, including 5,021 families affected by leprosy, 78,101 families impacted by natural disasters, 249 families afflicted with Kala-azar, 674 by Japanese Encephalitis (JE) and Acute Encephalitis Syndrome (AES), and 71,056 differently-abled individuals. These focused efforts emphasize the government's commitment to providing secure housing to those most in need, thereby improving the quality of life in rural Uttar Pradesh.

During a recent state-level monitoring committee meeting, chaired by Chief Secretary Manoj Kumar Singh, officials expressed confidence in achieving the remaining targets while ensuring that ongoing construction projects reach timely completion. The state remains committed to providing housing to all eligible beneficiaries by 2024-25, ensuring equitable and inclusive development in rural regions.
