LUCKNOW: The city of Lucknow is getting a high-tech upgrade in how it manages its buildings. The Lucknow Development Authority (LDA) has announced that it will now use drones and satellite pictures to find buildings that are constructed illegally. This new move is part of a big plan to make sure everyone follows the city’s building rules and keeps the streets safe.

Why Drones?

In a crowded city like Lucknow, it is often hard for government officers to see every single construction project from the street. Sometimes, builders hide extra floors or illegal extensions behind tall walls or curtains. In other cases, people change the inside of a building without telling the authorities.

By using drones, the LDA can get a bird’s eye view of the entire city. These flying cameras can see over walls and check the roofs of every building. The drones take very clear pictures that show if a building is taller than it should be or if it is covering more land than allowed.

Satellite and High-Tech Mapping

Along with drones, the LDA is using satellite imagery and "Geospatial" technology. This sounds complicated, but it simply means they are using computers to compare the real-world pictures with the official maps and approved plans.

Every building project in the city is supposed to have a Sanctioned Map, a document signed by the government that says exactly what can be built. The LDA’s new computer system can automatically spot the difference between the approved map and the actual building shown in the satellite photo. If there is a mismatch, the system flags it as a potential violation.

Focus on Commercial Violations

One of the biggest problems in Lucknow right now is Land Use violation. This happens when someone gets permission to build a house (residential) but instead opens a shop, a showroom or an office (commercial).

The LDA has noticed that on many of the city’s main roads, residential plots are being used for business without any permission. This causes a lot of trouble because shops and showrooms need more parking space and better drainage than a simple house. When houses turn into shops illegally, it leads to traffic jams and broken sewers. The first phase of this drone drive will focus on buildings along 24-meter-wide roads where these problems are most common.

Regular Check-ups Every Six Months

The LDA Vice-Chairman, Prathamesh Kumar, wants to make sure this isn't just a one-time thing. He has directed officials to conduct these drone surveys in every zone of the city every six months.

By checking the city twice a year, the government can catch illegal construction while it is still starting. It is much easier to stop a builder when they are just laying the foundation of an illegal floor than to try and demolish a finished building later. Regular monitoring will help keep the city organized and prevent mafias from taking over public land.

What Happens to Violators?

The LDA has been very busy lately. In the last few months, they have already identified and sealed more than 5,000 illegal constructions.

Now, with the drone data, they are preparing a new list of suspected buildings. Once the drone photos prove a violation, the LDA sends a legal notice to the property owner. If the owner cannot prove they have permission, the building can be sealed or even demolished. In some cases, owners might be asked to pay a heavy fine to regularize the construction, but only if the violation is small and safe.

The message from the LDA is clear: the days of building whatever you want without permission are over. Technology has made it impossible to hide illegal work.

For the people of Lucknow, this is good news. When buildings are constructed according to the rules, the city stays beautiful, roads stay wide enough for cars to pass, and buildings are safer against earthquakes or fires.

The LDA is also checking if any of its own officers were involved in letting these illegal buildings come up in the past. This ensures that the system is fair and honest for everyone. If you are planning to build or renovate your property in Lucknow, the best advice is to get your map approved by the LDA first. With drones in the sky, the government is always watching.
