Inside Shahid & Mira Kapoor’s Luxurious Mumbai Home: A Perfect Blend of Design and Family Living
Bollywood actor Shahid Kapoor and entrepreneur Mira Kapoor have created an exquisite home in Mumbai’s upscale Worli neighborhood, a space that seamlessly blends modern luxury with warmth and functionality. Their 10,000-square-foot duplex apartment is thoughtfully designed to accommodate their fast-paced lifestyle while maintaining a strong focus on family life.
From carefully curated decor pieces and intelligent space planning to a perfect balance between work and leisure, every element of their home has been meticulously designed to reflect their personal aesthetics and values.
A Move Inspired by Family Needs
Before moving to their Worli home, Shahid and Mira lived in Juhu, where Shahid had set up a bachelor pad. However, as their family expanded with the arrival of their children, Misha and Zain, they needed a larger space that could cater to their evolving needs.
Initially, they weren’t considering moving south of the Bandra-Worli Sea Link, preferring to stay closer to their previous home. However, their perspective shifted when Shahid visited a luxury high-rise in Worli and was immediately drawn to it. When he took Mira—who was heavily pregnant at the time—to see the space, she had an instant connection with it.
Although it was outside their original budget, size expectations, and preferred location, the couple instinctively knew that this was the perfect home for them.
A Thoughtfully Designed Living Space
The Kapoor residence is more than just a lavish apartment—it is a carefully planned home that prioritizes comfort, aesthetics, and functionality.
- The main living area is a warm, inviting space with earthy tones, soft textures, and abundant natural light, creating a sophisticated yet homely ambiance.
- The upper floor houses their entertainment and work zones, featuring a home theatre, DJ table, open-air gym, guest room, and office space.
- The layout ensures a clear distinction between personal and professional areas, allowing Shahid and Mira to manage their work commitments without disrupting family life.
A stunning black geometric staircase serves as the architectural centerpiece, around which the interiors have been structured.
A Home Designed for Hosting and Community Living
Shahid and Mira love hosting guests, and their home has been designed to accommodate social gatherings effortlessly. They frequently organize movie nights, cricket match screenings, and casual weekend get-togethers. Sundays are often spent with friends, with gatherings ending in pickleball matches in the building’s recreation area.
Mira, who grew up in a home where entertaining was an essential part of life, wanted to recreate that same warm and inviting atmosphere. As a result, fresh flowers, thoughtfully arranged tables, and a well-stocked dining area are permanent fixtures in the Kapoor household.
Balancing Two Distinct Aesthetic Styles
The couple turned to architect Annkur Khosla to help them design a space that would seamlessly blend Shahid’s contemporary, avant-garde taste with Mira’s preference for timeless, practical interiors.
- To ensure fairness, they divided the decision-making:
- Mira had the final say on the kitchen and children’s rooms.
- Shahid took charge of the upstairs entertainment spaces.
The rest of the home was designed through mutual discussion and compromise.
Mira describes her approach to design as thoughtful and functional, always considering factors such as durability, ease of cleaning, and long-term usability. Meanwhile, Shahid enjoys experimenting with bold and dramatic design elements.
A Carefully Curated Interior
The home is a blend of modern and organic elements, with textural contrasts, warm neutrals, and personalized decor pieces. Mira has incorporated design inspirations from her childhood home in Chattarpur, while also adding books from her father’s collection to create a sense of nostalgia and continuity.
Their furniture is sourced from a mix of global and local brands, ensuring a balance between aesthetics and practicality.
Mira has a deep appreciation for tablescaping, the art of styling a dining table—and has collected pieces from Wedgwood, Chilewich, and various design stores in Copenhagen, Spain, Italy, and England. Her obsession with trays and decorative accents has led to a curated selection of statement pieces that add character to their living spaces.
Lighting: The Key Element in Their Home
One of the most significant investments in their home is lighting design, which plays a crucial role in shaping the ambiance.
- Shahid prefers moody, dim lighting that creates a cozy and intimate setting.
- Mira favors bright, well-lit spaces that feel fresh and open.
To accommodate both preferences, they incorporated a mix of Erco, Paul Matter, and custom-designed Oorjaa lighting solutions.
Mira humorously remarks that a large portion of their home budget was spent on lighting, emphasizing how important this aspect was in defining the overall feel of their space.
A Home Designed Remotely During the Pandemic
Surprisingly, the entire home was designed remotely via Zoom during the pandemic.
While the Kapoors were in Punjab, their contractor, Laxman Mistry, managed the execution of the project. The family would visit Mumbai once a month to check on progress, but much of the decision-making was handled virtually. Despite the challenges of remote coordination, the project was successfully completed over 14 months.
A Home That Complements Their Lifestyle
Three years after moving in, the family has fully settled into their home and embraced the community lifestyle. Their daughter, Misha, enjoys rock climbing, often practicing on the building’s climbing wall. Mira’s mother frequents the swimming pool, making full use of the residential amenities.
For Shahid and Mira, one of the biggest advantages of their new home is having close friends just a few floors away, making impromptu gatherings a regular affair. Whether it’s a quiet evening with family or a fun-filled night with friends, their home effortlessly accommodates both.
A Reflection of Their Journey
Shahid and Mira Kapoor’s Worli home is a perfect blend of luxury, comfort, and personal expression. Beyond its architectural beauty and well-planned interiors, it represents their journey as a family, their evolving lifestyle, and their love for design.
From its carefully curated decor to its thoughtfully designed living spaces, the Kapoor residence is a masterclass in modern luxury living with a deeply personal touch.
Mira describes it best: “It’s a real-life cocoon.” And ultimately, that’s what makes a house a home.
