India’s First 3D-Printed Villa Built by Tvasta for Godrej Properties in Pune
Tvasta Manufacturing Solutions has completed India’s first 3D-printed villa for Godrej Properties at Godrej Eden Estate in Pune. The G+1 villa, covering 2,200 sq. ft., was built entirely on-site using concrete 3D printing technology. The project was completed within four months, from June to October 2024. Tvasta, a Chennai-based deep-tech start-up founded in 2016 by IIT Madras alumni, focuses on automation and robotics to improve construction efficiency.
The company used a concrete 3D printer to construct the villa, eliminating traditional formwork and reducing material waste. The printer deposited layers of concrete, ensuring precision and uniformity. The process allowed for flexibility in design while maintaining structural integrity. Automation played a role in streamlining the workflow, reducing manual labor, and minimizing errors. Robotics and digital technology contributed to optimizing construction timelines and resource use. The controlled printing environment ensured consistency in material application.
The walls of the villa were printed layer by layer, with each segment meeting predefined structural requirements. The system allowed for adjustments in dimensions and design specifications during the construction process. The structure was completed within the planned schedule, demonstrating the viability of on-site 3D printing for residential projects.
Tvasta incorporates industrial waste into its concrete mix, reducing raw material consumption. The 3D-printed walls provide better insulation, leading to lower energy usage and reduced cooling and heating costs. The construction process also reduces dependency on conventional building materials like bricks and cement blocks. The company continues to refine its materials and methods to enhance durability and efficiency. Collaboration with government agencies, academic institutions, and industry partners remains a focus. These partnerships support research and development, helping improve 3D printing applications for various construction needs.
Tvasta is also engaged in the development of multi-storey buildings, office spaces, and guesthouses. The company has expanded into international markets, selling construction 3D printers in the US and the Middle East. Tvasta’s developments include new printing technologies to support larger projects and different types of structures. The company’s ongoing work focuses on scaling production capacity and improving automation in the construction sector.
Parivarthan Reddy, Co-Founder of Tvasta Manufacturing Solutions, stated that the company aims to scale operations and develop collaborative partnerships in the construction sector. The goal is to further integrate 3D printing into mainstream construction. As the technology gains acceptance, projects like this villa demonstrate its potential for broader adoption. Tvasta’s work with Godrej Properties highlights the feasibility of 3D-printed homes, setting a precedent for future developments in real estate and infrastructure.
The company continues to explore opportunities for expansion, improving its technology and adapting its methods to different environments. The successful completion of this project indicates the growing interest in 3D-printed structures and their potential impact on the construction industry.
