Amit Shah Announces 10 Stadiums to Be Constructed in Ahmedabad for 2036 Olympics

Union Home Minister Amit Shah announced  that India is committed to hosting the 2036 Olympic Games and is preparing the infrastructure required for the event. As part of this plan, 10 major stadiums will be developed at the Sardar Patel Sports Complex in Ahmedabad, adjacent to the Narendra Modi Cricket Stadium.

Minister Shah made the announcement while virtually laying the foundation stone for the Para High Performance Centre in Gandhinagar. The project, with an estimated cost of Rs 316.82 crore, aims to provide world-class training facilities for para athletes. The facility will support state, national, and international competitions and help athletes compete at a higher level.

The initiative is expected to provide better opportunities for differently-abled athletes by ensuring access to high-quality training and competition infrastructure. The government has also worked to change public perception, promoting more respectful terminology and policies that support inclusion in sports.

India has expressed its determination to hold the 2036 Olympics and has already begun preparations in Gujarat. The planned stadiums at the Sardar Patel Sports Complex will be part of the larger effort to develop modern sports facilities across the state. Gujarat is positioning itself as a key player in India’s Olympic bid by investing in large-scale sports infrastructure.

Gujarat’s Investment in Sports Development

The Gujarat government has significantly increased its investment in sports infrastructure over the years. In 2002, the state’s budget for sports was only Rs 2 crore, but it has since expanded significantly to Rs 352 crore. This reflects the state’s commitment to promoting sports and ensuring that athletes have access to world-class training and competition facilities.

Several initiatives have been introduced to strengthen the sports sector, including expanding training centers, improving existing stadiums, and developing new sports academies. These efforts align with the broader goal of making sports accessible to all and elevating Gujarat’s status as a hub for athletic development.

Memorandum of Understanding for Digital Services

During the event, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between the Department of Science and Technology of the Gujarat government and the Centre’s Common Service Centre (CSC). The agreement aims to enhance citizen-oriented digital services in Gandhinagar district.

The development of new sports infrastructure in Gujarat is expected to play a significant role in India’s Olympic aspirations. With large-scale investments and planning already underway, Ahmedabad is emerging as a key location for the country’s sports development initiatives. The coming years will determine the progress of these projects and India’s chances of securing the bid for the 2036 Olympics.
