₹110 Crore Revenue Achieved Through GVMC’s Online Building Approval System

The Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation (GVMC) has achieved significant progress through its Online Building Permission Management System, which generated ₹110.25 crore in revenue for the financial year 2024-25. This system approved 3,385 building plan applications, showcasing its efficiency in facilitating urban development. The initiative has made the process faster, more transparent, and accessible to all stakeholders, contributing to GVMC’s success in streamlining the building plan approval mechanism.

In addition to its achievements in online building plan approvals, GVMC resolved 2,686 out of 2,738 applications under the Layout Regularisation Scheme. This effort brought in an additional ₹65.71 crore, further bolstering the corporation’s financial resources. These funds are crucial for GVMC’s ongoing projects, particularly its focus on improving infrastructure within Visakhapatnam. The construction of 15 master plan roads, spanning a total length of 84.84 kilometers, is currently underway. Once completed, these roads are expected to significantly enhance the city’s connectivity and support its growing population and economic activities.

Property tax collection has also been a focal point for GVMC. The civic body set a target of ₹470 crore for 2024-25, out of which ₹284 crore had been collected by mid-December. To encourage timely payments, an “early bird” offer was introduced, providing a 5% discount on property tax payments. This initiative alone generated ₹118.58 crore in April, demonstrating its effectiveness. New property tax assessments further contributed to an increase of ₹30 crore in tax demand, highlighting the GVMC’s proactive approach to revenue generation.

GVMC’s efforts in sanitation and urban management have earned it recognition at the state level. On October 2, the corporation received the prestigious Swachh Bhagidari award from the Chief Minister for its exemplary work in improving sanitation standards. Additionally, GVMC secured the first-place award for its initiatives under the PM Svamitva Scheme, particularly for providing loans to street vendors. These accolades reflect the corporation’s commitment to fostering a cleaner, more inclusive urban environment.

As part of its sustainability initiatives, GVMC plans to implement a ban on single-use plastics starting January. This move aligns with its vision of making Visakhapatnam a cleaner and more environmentally conscious city. GVMC Commissioner P. Sampath Kumar emphasized the importance of timely property tax payments, urging residents to contribute to the city’s development by adhering to their civic responsibilities.
