Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to inaugurate the much-awaited Yellow Line of Bengaluru’s Namma Metro on August 10, 2025, as announced by Bengaluru South MP and BJP leader Tejasvi Surya. The Prime Minister will also lay the foundation stone for the 44.65 km Phase-3 of the Bengaluru Metro project during his visit.
The Yellow Line, a 19.15-km elevated corridor connecting RV Road to Bommasandra in the city’s southern corridor, has been under construction for several years. Comprising 16 stations, the project has been executed at an estimated cost of ₹5,056.99 crore. Surya stated that the line is expected to serve nearly 8 lakh commuters daily and play a major role in easing congestion, especially in the Silk Board area, a long-standing traffic bottleneck in the city.
The Prime Minister's visit also marks the official launch of Phase-3 of the metro network, which aims to add 44.65 km to the city’s mass transit infrastructure. The estimated cost of Phase-3 is ₹15,611 crore. The Cabinet had approved the project within the first 100 days of the current government’s third term.
Tejasvi Surya, who has been actively advocating for the commissioning of the Yellow Line, had earlier held a symbolic protest demanding its early opening. He thanked Prime Minister Modi for ensuring the line’s inauguration was not delayed beyond August 15. Surya emphasized that the metro expansion was critical for Bengaluru South, stating that the combined benefit of the Yellow Line and Phase-3 will reach approximately 25 lakh people.
Union Minister for Housing and Urban Affairs, Manohar Lal Khattar, also confirmed the Prime Minister’s participation in the inauguration through a social media post, expressing satisfaction over the project’s timely completion. He praised the central government’s commitment to enhancing urban mobility and reducing traffic dependency on private vehicles.
The Yellow Line is expected to link important residential and industrial hubs in southern Bengaluru and improve last-mile connectivity. With a focus on boosting public transport adoption, metro extensions like this are considered central to Bengaluru’s future urban mobility plans.
With the completion and commissioning of this line, Namma Metro’s operational network will cross over 90 kilometers, making it one of the more extensive urban rail systems in India. It will also reduce travel time between key city nodes and support smoother east-west and north-south commuting integration.
The August 10 inauguration is expected to draw large public attention and signals a renewed push for infrastructure delivery timelines in urban transport.
