The‍‌‍‍‌‍‌‍‍‌ Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority (YEIDA) has declared the distribution of 200 acres of industrial land in Sector 8 to SAEL Solar P6 Private Limited, a wholly-owned subsidiary of SAEL Industries Limited, for the establishment of an integrated solar manufacturing ecosystem with a total investment of ₹8,200 crore.

The decision came after the green signal given to the mega project by the Uttar Pradesh state government, which is geared towards the creation of jobs and business opportunities in the region. The project, as per YEIDA authorities, will be a major driver of the state's renewable energy and advanced manufacturing ‍‌‍‍‌‍‌‍‍‌sectors.

The‍‌‍‍‌‍‌‍‍‌ newly planned solar hub would have 5 gigawatts (GW) solar cell manufacturing lines and 5 GW solar module manufacturing lines based on Tunnel Oxide Passivated Contact (TOPCon) technology. TOPCon technology is one of the least solar cell technologies to be used in the world and is therefore very effective in terms of the solar cells' efficiency and their longevity. To give an idea of the project's size, one gigawatt is equal to one billion watts of power.

After the state government has given a ‘Letter of Comfort’ to SAEL Industries Limited, YEIDA has issued the allotment letter. This is a step that indicates the government's support for the proposal. Officials said that the Letter of Comfort enables the company to get more points during the land allotment evaluation process, thus confirming that the company meets the criteria for ‍‌‍‍‌‍‌‍‍‌eligibility.

According to officials, the Letter of Comfort helps the company gain marks during the land allotment evaluation process, ensuring that the firm meets the eligibility criteria. “Following the Government of Uttar Pradesh directions and UPINVEST, now YEIDA issued a Letter of Allotment to SAEL Industries Limited. We have handed over the allotment letter to SAEL officials. The project will be located along the Yamuna Expressway near Noida International Airport that has already become a strategic industrial-growth zone within the state’s overall infrastructure and manufacturing push. This mega project will not only create jobs but help in development of the solar ecosystem near airport that is the biggest growth engine in this region,” said YEIDA Chief Executive officer RK Singh.

The‍‌‍‍‌‍‌‍‍‌ development is projected to attract the setting up of a factory cluster that follows the trail of the Yamuna Expressway, thus, deepening the state's industrial backbone. This fresh solar powe plant will take along the district's assets such as the link to the soon-to-be Jewar airport, the adjacent logistics hubs and the policy package of the Uttar Pradesh government providing facilitation for manufacturing-led ‍‌‍‍‌‍‌‍‍‌growth.

“The new solar unit project will help facilitate large-scale manufacturing investment in renewable energy and advanced manufacturing segments. SAEL’s new solar project is expected to leverage the region’s infrastructure advantages - connectivity to the upcoming Jewar airport and logistics hubs and the policy impetus of the Uttar Pradesh government for manufacturing-led growth,” Mr. Singh added.

SAEL Industries Limited is a diversified renewable energy company with expertise in solar module manufacturing, engineering, procurement and construction, and operations and maintenance of power projects. Its portfolio currently includes 8,299.5 MW of solar Independent Power Producer (IPP) capacity, 3,625 MW of TOPCon solar module manufacturing capacity, and 164.90 MW of agri waste-to-energy projects, YEIDA officials noted.
