The Lucknow Development Authority (LDA) has commenced construction on its proposed Naimish Nagar township along Sitapur Road, aiming to provide housing for approximately three lakh residents. The project spans 1,084 hectares and marks a significant step in the city’s urban development plan.
Construction started on Tuesday with the establishment of the first site office at Purva village in Bakshi Ka Talab. Land for the project will be acquired through consent-based agreements under the Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) approved by the LDA board. Eighteen villages have been earmarked for inclusion in the scheme, including Bhauli, Lakshmipur, Purba Gaon, Purva, Sairpur, Farrukhabad, Kodri Bhauli, Kamalabad, Kamalapur, Palhari, Gopramou, Barumou, Dhatingra, Saidapur, Paschim Gaon, Dhobaila, Umrabhari, and Duggaur.
LDA vice-chairperson Prathamesh Kumar noted that the estimated cost of land acquisition is ₹4,785 crore. He added that the township will encompass residential, commercial, and public facilities, including roads, parks, schools, hospitals, and waste management systems. The design aims to meet housing demand while also supporting economic growth by creating opportunities in sectors such as industry, healthcare, education, and logistics.
Joint Secretary Sushil Pratap Singh explained that the construction of the site office was overseen by zonal officer Sangeeta Raghav, with the presence of executive engineer Ashok Kumar, tehsildar Arjan Hemchandra Tiwari, and assistant engineer Gaurav Singh. Singh highlighted that the LDA is in active discussions with local farmers regarding land purchase, emphasizing a consent-based approach for acquiring property.
Alongside the township, the LDA plans to upgrade infrastructure and public amenities in the included villages. Proposed improvements cover roads, drainage systems, playgrounds, marriage halls, health centers, ponds, graveyards, schools, parks, and crematoriums. Officials expect land deed processes to begin shortly once agreements are finalized.
The Naimish Nagar project represents a broader vision for planned urban expansion in Lucknow. By combining residential development with commercial and public facilities, the township is intended to balance population growth with infrastructure needs. It is also expected to attract investment to the area, contributing to local employment generation and overall regional economic activity.
The initiative reflects the LDA’s commitment to implementing structured township projects and addressing the city’s housing requirements. By integrating modern facilities with existing village structures, the project seeks to ensure sustainable development and an improved standard of living for future residents.
The commencement of construction on the first site office signifies the transition from planning to execution. It marks the beginning of an extensive infrastructure effort that will unfold over several phases, aiming to deliver a fully functional model township in line with the authority’s objectives.
With the inclusion of eighteen villages and a large-scale residential population, Naimish Nagar is expected to become one of Lucknow’s key urban hubs. The project highlights the importance of coordinated planning, infrastructure development, and community engagement to support the city’s ongoing growth and modernization.
