GLADA Demolishes Illegal Colonies in Ladian Kalan and Hussainpura to Prevent Unauthorised Development

The Greater Ludhiana Development Authority (GLADA) took action against unauthorised development by demolishing three illegal colonies in Ladian Kalan and Hussainpura villages on Monday. This move was part of an ongoing campaign to prevent the expansion of unapproved residential areas that do not comply with government regulations. The initiative aims to protect prospective buyers from fraudulent real estate transactions and prevent the long-term urban planning issues that arise from unauthorised development.

The demolition drive was carried out under the directives of Harpreet Singh, Chief Administrator of GLADA, who has ordered strict action against individuals or groups responsible for illegal colony development. A team led by District Town Planner (R) Sandeep carried out the demolition process, which included the dismantling of roads, boundary walls, and passages under construction.

Sewer manholes were also removed to prevent further progress on the sites. Authorities have urged residents to be cautious when purchasing land and ensure that plots are located in approved colonies to avoid potential legal and financial complications.

Unapproved colonies often lack essential infrastructure, leading to significant issues for those who invest in them. Many of these areas do not have proper road networks, drainage systems, water supply, or electricity connections. Buyers are often misled by developers promising affordable housing, only to later discover that they do not have access to basic amenities.

In many cases, such colonies remain unregularised for years, forcing residents to rely on alternative and often expensive solutions for water, sewage, and transportation. These issues put additional strain on the surrounding areas, leading to congestion, environmental degradation, and increased demand for resources from nearby authorised localities.

Authorities have consistently warned both developers and buyers about the risks associated with unauthorised colonies. Despite multiple public notices and awareness campaigns, illegal development continues to take place, often under misleading advertisements promoting land at lower prices. To counter this, GLADA has been conducting regular inspections and demolition drives to prevent further expansion of these colonies. Officials have reiterated that buying plots in such areas can lead to financial losses, as they do not have legal sanction and may not be eligible for regularisation in the future.

The demolition of the three colonies in Ladian Kalan and Hussainpura is part of a broader effort to ensure compliance with urban development regulations. Authorities have stated that similar actions will continue against those violating land-use policies. Strict monitoring and enforcement measures are being put in place to prevent further illegal construction. The administration remains committed to ensuring that urban expansion takes place in a planned manner, avoiding the risks and challenges posed by unauthorised settlements.
