GHMC aims to complete Hyderabad’s second-longest flyover, the Aramghar to Zoo Park Flyover, by November 30
The construction of the Aramghar to Zoo Park flyover in Hyderabad is nearing completion, with the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) aiming to finalize the project by November 30. The six-lane bi-directional flyover spans 4.04 kilometers and is expected to address traffic congestion and improve connectivity along a critical route.
During a recent inspection, GHMC Commissioner Ilambharti reviewed the progress of the flyover and emphasized the importance of completing the main structure within the set deadline. Officials involved in the project highlighted specific challenges, particularly with the construction of service roads beneath the flyover. According to Chief Engineer CE Devanand, 17 properties need to be acquired for the service road work to proceed. Of these, five private properties must be acquired immediately to avoid further delays.
Efforts are underway to address these land acquisition challenges. The zonal town planning authorities have been instructed to submit compensatory payment proposals without delay. Commissioner Ilambharti assured that the necessary funds would be made available for these acquisitions to keep the project on track. GHMC Zonal Commissioner Venkanna has been tasked with completing the required paperwork for these transactions within two days.
The flyover’s construction has involved coordination among multiple departments to ensure smooth progress. Key officials from various city agencies participated in the inspection, including Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA) Commissioner Sarfaraz Ahmad and Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply & Sewerage Board (HMWS&SB) Executive Director D. Mayank Mittal. Their involvement highlights the collaboration required to deliver large-scale infrastructure projects within tight timelines.
Once completed, the flyover will be the second-longest in Hyderabad and is designed to ease traffic flow between Aramghar and the Nehru Zoo Park in Bahadurpura. It is expected to alleviate congestion at five major junctions: Aramghar, Shastripuram, Kalapathar, Darul Uloom, Shivrampally, and Hassannagar. These junctions are known for high traffic volumes, and the new flyover aims to provide a more efficient route for commuters traveling along this corridor.
The construction of the flyover is part of GHMC’s efforts to address Hyderabad’s growing transportation needs. By reducing travel times and improving accessibility, the project is expected to benefit thousands of commuters daily. Additionally, the flyover will contribute to easing bottlenecks that have long been a challenge for residents and visitors using this route.
Although challenges such as land acquisition and coordination among various departments have posed hurdles, the project is steadily progressing toward completion. The involvement of senior officials and the commitment to resolving issues promptly reflect the priority given to this infrastructure improvement. GHMC’s assurances regarding funding and swift action on pending matters demonstrate the focus on ensuring timely delivery.
The Aramghar to Zoo Park flyover will play a significant role in enhancing Hyderabad’s urban transportation network. By improving connectivity along one of the city’s busiest routes, it will provide a more streamlined experience for commuters and reduce the stress caused by traffic congestion. Its strategic design and scope make it an important addition to the city’s infrastructure.
With the completion deadline approaching, all efforts are being directed toward ensuring that the flyover is operational as planned. Once opened, it will stand as a key development in Hyderabad’s ongoing efforts to build a more efficient and accessible urban environment.
