The Amaravati campus will serve as a next-generation academic hub, supporting 3,000 students in its initial phase and expanding to accommodate 7,000 students in the second. Spread across 35 acres, the campus will feature advanced research centres, global collaboration spaces, and dedicated startup incubators. BITS has designed the facility using sustainable and modular infrastructure for long-term scalability and efficiency.

The campus aims to offer undergraduate twinning programs, dual PhD degrees in collaboration with international universities, and master’s programs focused on artificial intelligence, machine learning, innovation, and strategic thinking.

The state government of Andhra Pradesh has extended support for the campus, including land and regulatory facilitation. According to Birla, the request to set up the campus came directly from Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu.

Under Project Vistaar, BITS Pilani will upgrade its existing campuses by building new academic blocks, student housing, faculty residences, and modern research facilities. The plan includes a significant increase in the student intake, from the current 18,700 to 26,000 by the academic year 2030–31.

One of the key goals is to modernize undergraduate laboratories and research infrastructure to meet international standards. According to Birla, this expansion will align with future academic needs and industry trends by introducing interdisciplinary programs.

As part of its digital strategy, BITS Pilani will launch a new edtech platform, BITS Pilani Digital, within the next six months. The platform will offer hybrid learning solutions that blend in-person teaching with immersive digital tools and AI-powered educational services.

The initiative reflects the institute’s strategic shift toward future-ready education models that combine physical infrastructure with scalable digital learning ecosystems.

Vice-Chancellor Prof. V. Ramgopal Rao noted that the institute has reversed the trend of brain drain, calling it a “brain gain.” According to him, 50% of the faculty hired in the past three years have international academic or professional experience. Furthermore, about 75% of graduating students now prefer to pursue careers and entrepreneurial ventures in India.

To promote gender diversity, BITS Pilani is offering targeted scholarships to girls ranking in the top 1,000 of national entrance exams. While the overall female representation remains around 15%, diversity among PhD scholars has reached 40%.

In the last admission cycle, BITS Pilani received 2.41 lakh applications and admitted 3,500 students, highlighting the strong demand for its programs. The institute's expansion plans are expected to significantly increase intake capacity over the next five years.

With this investment, BITS Pilani aims to strengthen its role as a leading academic institution that offers globally relevant programs in science, engineering, and emerging technologies. The physical expansion, combined with a move into digital education, marks a new chapter in the institute’s evolution.
