Bidhannagar Residents Can Pay Property Tax Online from April
Starting April, Bidhannagar residents will have a more convenient way to pay their property taxes—through a mobile app! The Bidhannagar Municipal Corporation (BMC) is introducing the Bharat Bill Payment System (BBPS) to simplify tax payments. This move aims to make the process smoother, reducing the need for physical visits to banks and municipal offices.
How Property Tax is Currently Paid
At present, taxpayers in Bidhannagar can pay their property tax in two ways:
- Online Methods: Using debit/credit cards or internet banking.
- Offline Methods: Visiting designated bank branches and making payments through cash, cheque, or demand draft.
While online payments exist, the process can sometimes be cumbersome. With the new BBPS system, a mobile app will allow users to make payments anytime, anywhere, improving efficiency and ease.
Why is BMC Introducing This Change?
The civic body aims to increase revenue from property tax collections. Last year, the estimated collection was ₹40 crore, and this year, the target has been increased to ₹44 crore. By making tax payments more accessible, BMC hopes to improve compliance and ensure more people pay on time.
Additionally, BMC is working on introducing the Unit Area Assessment (UAA) system. This will create a standardized property tax structure across all 41 wards, ensuring fairness in taxation.
What This Means for Residents
- Faster and more convenient tax payments.
- No need to visit banks or municipal offices.
- A more transparent tax system for all.
With this digital transformation, Bidhannagar residents can expect a hassle-free way to stay up to date with their property tax payments. Stay tuned for official updates on how to access the app!
