BBMP to Launch 1,000 e-Khata Kiosks in Bengaluru to Ease Property Registration

The Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) is gearing up to launch 1,000 e-khata kiosks across the city to simplify and accelerate the property documentation process. This initiative comes as a response to the slow adoption of e-khatas in Bengaluru. Currently, out of the 22 lakh properties in the city, only 1.6 lakh property owners have availed themselves of an e-khata, while another 1.4 lakh applications remain pending.

To address the backlog and encourage more property owners to transition to the digital system, BBMP is setting up kiosks that will allow citizens to complete their e-khata applications conveniently. These kiosks will be manned by volunteers who have already obtained their e-khata and are familiar with the online process. The aim is to engage local residents who possess basic computer skills and knowledge of the required documentation.

According to Munish Moudgil, Special Commissioner (Revenue) of BBMP, volunteers will be given a BBMP login ID that allows them to upload necessary documents directly to the municipal servers. This measure is intended to ensure data security and authenticity. Volunteers will work through official BBMP channels, and a nominal fee will be charged for the service.

The first e-khata kiosk is set to be launched in HRBR Layout next week, and BBMP aims to make the remaining 999 kiosks operational in the near future. These kiosks will be placed strategically across different parts of the city to maximize accessibility for residents. The objective is to make the e-khata process more efficient, reducing delays caused by long application queues and bureaucratic hurdles.

With the introduction of these kiosks, BBMP hopes to make property registration more seamless, transparent, and accessible. The transition to digital documentation is expected to reduce dependence on intermediaries and agents, ensuring a more citizen-friendly system.

By encouraging volunteers to assist fellow residents, BBMP is fostering a community-driven approach to property documentation. This initiative aligns with the broader goal of digitizing civic services, enhancing governance, and ensuring that more property owners in Bengaluru have their records in order.

With the planned launch of 1,000 kiosks, property owners will have greater convenience in accessing e-khata services, ultimately contributing to a more organized and efficient property registration system in the city.
