Andhra Pradesh Govt to Allocate Additional 2,000 Acres to Sri City for Expansion
The Andhra Pradesh government has approved the allocation of 2,000 additional acres of land to Sri City, an industrial area located in the Tirupati district. This decision is part of the government’s efforts to address the growing demand for industrial space in the region. Since its inception in 2008, Sri City has rapidly developed into a key industrial hub, attracting a wide range of companies from different sectors.
In its initial phase, the Andhra Pradesh government allocated 8,000 acres of land to Sri City, located near the Satyavedu and Varadaiahpalem mandals in Tirupati district. Over the years, Sri City has grown significantly, transitioning from an underdeveloped region to an important business center. Today, the city hosts 220 companies from 30 countries, including well-known names such as Mondelez International, Colgate Palmolive, Alstom Transport, Hero MotoCorp, and Apollo Tyres.
Sri City has become an important contributor to India’s export sector, with cumulative exports reaching $4 billion. Additionally, the region has attracted investments totaling $4.5 billion. These factors highlight the city’s role as a key player in both the domestic and international markets. The growth of Sri City can be attributed to its strategic location, strong infrastructure, and a business-friendly environment that supports both local and international investments.
The newly allocated 2,000 acres of land will support Sri City’s ongoing growth by providing space for additional industrial units. The government has identified areas near Padirikuppam for the expansion, which will help the city meet the increasing demand for industrial facilities. Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu emphasized the importance of acquiring additional land to ensure that Sri City remains an attractive destination for businesses seeking to establish operations in the state.
One of the notable aspects of Sri City’s development is its ability to create employment opportunities for the local population. Currently, around 62,000 people work at various industrial units within Sri City, with 95% of the workforce coming from nearby villages. This demonstrates the positive impact that Sri City has had on local communities. The expansion of Sri City will generate more job opportunities for the surrounding areas, further contributing to the state’s goal of increasing employment and fostering economic growth.
The decision to allocate additional land to Sri City aligns with the government’s broader strategy to attract investment and promote industrial growth throughout Andhra Pradesh. This move will help meet the growing demand for industrial space and maintain the region’s competitiveness in attracting businesses. As a result, the state’s economy will benefit from increased investment and the creation of more jobs.
Beyond industrial growth, the additional land allocation will also improve the region’s infrastructure and connectivity. The expansion of infrastructure to accommodate new industries will benefit local communities as well, providing better roads, utilities, and services. This will create a more favorable environment for business operations while also improving the quality of life for local residents.
With the additional land, Sri City will be able to accommodate new industries and support the expansion of existing businesses. The increased space will allow the city to continue meeting the needs of industries that require reliable and well-equipped locations to set up operations. This will help ensure that Sri City remains a central industrial hub in Andhra Pradesh and continues to play an important role in the state’s economic development.
